saviour of all worlds But Mine

Acrylic on wood, 2019

This piece is a subversion on the popular Renaissance era subject of Salvator Mundi (Jesus Christ) (Saviour of The World) showing the sign of the cross.

Taking cues from different forms of Salvator Mundi, comic book art and popular culture, this piece makes it clear that the figure in question is not Salvatore Mundi (Jesus Christ/Prophet Isa a.s.) and also not my saviour.

This piece also examines the relationship between art, beliefs and culture, owing to the background of the artist (Malay-Muslim) whose cultural taboos are subverted with regards to depictions of religious figures, much less the human form, which in this case is neither religious nor human but very much toes the line of each category.
